February 12

Back at the farm! We were met with snow, wind and
-15C temperatures. The palm trees in the greenhouse are a visual reminder of warmer places but the view out the window tells another story!

A big thank you to Scott and Patricia for dog-sitting our pet, Roxie.
We are sure that she had a great doggy time and was well spoiled and cared for. Thank you!

Nassau, Bahamas!

Warm, sunny and friendly! We boarded a minibus and travelled to the far end of the island for a day of viewing the coral reefs and tropical fish of the Carribean Sea! We each operated a one-man sub for a deeper view of God's creation and then snorkled on the surface. The fish are so unique and colourful! Purple, blue, stripped, yellow, mult-coloured, large, small...... the variety goes on and on. Absolutely amazing! The coral reefs were incredible also.... fans, coral, all different shapes, sizes and colours.
Once while snorkling, I looked down and saw a HUGE creature right below me. I raised my head, called an alert and looked down again only to see the 4-5 foot reef shark swimming away! My only disappointment was that in the shock of seeing a shark, I failed to get a picture of it! Can you believe it! A missed opportunity!

Have you been on a cruise? We hadn't, so decided to try a four day cruise on the Sovereign of the Seas to the Bahamas. It was a new experience. The ship left from Cape Canaveral and was scheduled to dock at Nassau, Bahamas and anchor at Coco Cay. Unfortunately stormy weather prevented the stop at Coco Cay, but we really enjoyed the time at Nassau. We also enjoyed the activities, food and shows on board the ship. There was always something going on!

One highlight of our time in the Orlando area was experiencing the blast-off of the Atlantis Space Shuttle on February 7 at 2:45pm. It was a beautiful day and a picture perfect blast-off. We were part of the 12,000+ spectators gathered at the Kennedy Space Center for the event.

We also walked along Cocoa Beach, toured Universal Studios, saw alligators and enjoyed the warm, sunny weather.

Orchids

January 31

Early in the morning we caught a flight to Dallas. Jodi and her boyfriend live in Fort Worth and Lawrence's sister and husband, Paul and Darlene as well as David live in Burleson. We had a great time in Texas. We visited an orchid greenhouse and were overwhelmed with the variety and beauty of God's creations. We enjoyed David's cooking on Sabbath and Jodi's SuperBowl party on Sunday. Did you cheer for the best and winning team? The Giants! We had special together times and really enjoyed the time spent with each one of the Texas family.

January 26-28

Snow skiing was calling and the call was answered! A group of family members gathered at Canmore and enjoyed time together and a great day of skiing at Sunshine. David Karmy and Paul flew in from Texas, Kevin, Angie and Jaren from Hemaruka, Brian from Edmonton and Lawrence and I. Unfortunately on the second day of skiing, a cold front moved in and the temperature dropped to -32C not counting the wind chill of the gale force that was blowing.

I helped Mom and Dad fly down to Palm Desert - getting away from the cold and snow and into the warmth of the California sun! What a treat for me! The warm breezes, palm trees, flowers, fresh picked grapefruit, oranges and lemons were all awesome!

FYI - Express Jet, a new airlines, is very efficient, friendly and actually serves good tasting food.

Christmas 2007

We started out the year with a late Christmas Celebration at Sandpoint with the entire Siemsen Family. We had a great time with good food, lots of visiting, games, sledding and of course, skiing at Schweitzer Basin. The powder snow was soft and the weather was typically Schweitzer weather - a mix of sun, wind, fog and falling snow.

A highlight was the celebration of Dad's and Mom's 60th Wedding Anniversary. It was special to all be together and celebrate this day with them.

Another highlight was attending the Humanitarian Bowl game in Boise on December 31. Unfortunately our team, Georgia Tech, failed in it's attempt to take the victory from Fresno University, but it was a close and exciting game. Being on the third row and near the 50 yard line in the GT section did add to the excitement. Thanks to Ryan, a GT student, for getting the tickets and to David for the use of his van, portable DVD players and vehicle games! The road trip was an experience!
